Health and Safety management systems

OSHMS, Occupational Health and Safety Management Scheme (OHSAS 18001 and ILO-OSH)

OSHMS (Occupational Safety & Health Management System) applies to organizations seeking to prioritize occupational safety and health practices and methods; reduce liability, worker's compensation and health costs; reduce workplace injuries; decrease lost of work hours; and demonstrate prudence in a court of law. Through OSHMS allows organizations to apply OHSAS 18001 2007, Loss Control or ILO-OSH, Z-10, and other recognizeable systems as these are internationally recognize (as occupational health and safety management systems best practices). These provide a basis for organizations to implement health and safety through reduction of risks by identifying and acting on work relating hazards.

ISO 6385:2004 is of interest for those pursuing an Ergonomics standard - Ergonomics Principles in the Design of Work Systems.

Implementation of OSHMS can be concurrent to EMS Standards such as ISO 14001:2004 or EMAS or FSMS ISO 22000, ISO/IEC 27001 or HACCP MS, as such identifies the common areas in both management systems for further reducing risk. As previously noted, other management systems for health and safety includes OHSAS 18001, ILO-OSH and national equivalents, again as OSHMS, OHSAS 18001, Loss Control, Z-10 + 29 CFR 1910 and ILO-OSH are compatible with ISO 14001 (2004) and ISO 9001:2000...

Thereof, with the information provided organization may opt to implement a mutually inclusive or mutually exclusive management system to ISO 14001, ISO 22000, HACCP MS and may opt to integrate ISO 9001 in part or its entirety. This decision for inclusiveness or exclusiveness implies that ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 22000 and OSHMS, OHSAS 18001 and ILO-OSH can coexist as one management system, namely IMS ("Integrated Managerial System", see IKB^© as a possible variant).
