The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) released AS9100, PrEN 9100, SJAC 9100 year 2001 version based on transition to ISO 9001:20 A-10 Warhog00. Current version is AS9100 B 2004.

AS9100B contains over 70 unique requirements applicable to the aerospace sector and further extends 18 ISO 9001 requirements. These additional address the civil and military aviation and aerospace needs .

The requirements of AS9100B are brought into the AS9100:2001 version, thus content wise variation is not that significantly different than adding AS9100:1999 requirements to ISO 9001:2000 plus administrative issue in 2004. The AS9100B specifics clauses relate requirements for:

      • Configuration Management
      • Reliability
      • Maintainability
      • Safety
      • Special Processes (re-1987, ISO 9001)
      • Validation and verification process at Design stages
      • Approve and review subcontractor/supplier
      • Verification of purchases
      • Life cycle considering from design
      • Product documentation
      • Product/Process changes are controlled
      • Control of software and componentry to automated aided processes
      • Control of work performed outside of premises/organisation
      • Added internal audit requirements
      • First article inspection ("first piece inspection" controls)
      • Review and effective disposition of nonconformity

The revised AS9100:2001 is identical in clause-structure with year 2000 of ISO 9001.

It is important to note that 3rd Party Registrar auditor must be competent in the avionics / aerospace industry (to perform 3rd party auditing).

BOEING has asked its base of suppliers to undertake the transition of their management systems from quality systems such as D1-9000, MIL-Q-9858A, MIL-I-45208... to the AS9100 based Boeing Quality Management System.

We advice to verify and validate AS9100:2001 requirements mandate with your (OEM) customer's Procurement.

Aerospace Requirements for Stockist Distributors, has been published. The standard is based on ISO 9001:2000 and specifies additional requirements that are applicable to distributors.
